City of Nixa, Missouri WWTF Clarifier Rehabilitation
At the City of Nixa Wastewater Treatment Facility, 23 years of exposure to aggressive wastewater conditions had caused significant deterioration in the concrete clarifiers. Cracking, leaking joints, and failing grout lines were beginning to threaten the long-term operation of the clarifier. In the past, the city had performed countless patchwork maintenance repairs methods, but the results were temporary and required frequent rework.
When it came time for a more durable rehabilitation, city officials chose Midwest Infrastructure Coatings, a certified OBIC installer, to restore the structures and extend their service life without the need for costly replacement. The project’s goal was to create a long-lasting, watertight system that could withstand the constant chemical and physical stresses of daily operation.
“We could have just regrouted it, which we’ve done in the past, but we wanted a more holistic approach.”
Kirk Farris
Chief Plant Operator, City of Nixa
The Midwest Infrastructure Coatings team performed extensive surface preparation and applied OBIC’s high-performance polyurea lining system, forming a seamless, flexible barrier that protects against corrosion, and abrasion. The coating was installed quickly and efficiently, minimizing downtime and allowing the facility to remain on schedule.
Following completion, the plant’s clarifiers were returned to service looking and performing like new. The city achieved a long-term structural solution at a fraction of the replacement cost—extending the useful life of the infrastructure for decades.
“We probably now hose down the clarifier half as often as we did before. If you figure in the hourly cost of labor, the savings add up quickly.”

By partnering with Midwest Infrastructure Coatings and OBIC, the City of Nixa gained a durable, low-maintenance solution that restored critical infrastructure and safeguarded the community’s investment.
